Key Components Every Blast Room Must Have for Optimal Performance


Blast rooms eliminate the health hazards of liquid chemical paint stripping and reduce facility contaminates like noise, dust, and fumes. They also allow powder coating shops to increase productivity and profitability by indoor blasting operations.

An efficient blast room starts with a media reclamation/recovery system that separates the dust from the abrasive material for reuse. This is the most critical component for optimum performance.

Abrasive Recovery System

The abrasive recovery system recycles used abrasive materials back into the blast pot to be reused, reducing operating costs and saving money on new abrasives. It also prevents abrasive from clogging the nozzles and promotes consistent finish quality.

To stop bothersome dust from escaping and interfering with operations or polluting the facility, the dust collection system generates a negative pressure inside the blast room. It includes a dust collector that filters the air inside the blast room and a cartridge-type dust collector for reclaiming spent abrasive media. These systems are vital for maintaining a safe working environment and running the blasting process smoothly.

Ventilation also includes mechanical systems that move stale indoor air out and fresh outdoor air in. There are several different types of ventilation, including exhaust, supply, balanced, and energy recovery.

Ventilation helps control chemical and physical hazards and maintains temperature and relative humidity. It can also dilute metabolic pollutants and localized sources of contaminants such as flammable or toxic gases or vapors.

Ventilation effectiveness depends on climate conditions and can be challenging to control. Therefore, a ventilation system should be able to adjust to varying climatic conditions. Mechanical ventilation should provide a consistent airflow throughout the space and avoid contaminant build-up within the system.
